Date set for cocoa producers’ exellence awards

ABOUT 125 cocoa-producing groups will showcase their products from which fine cocoa flavours will be tested during the PNG Cocoa of Excellence (CoEX) awards show scheduled for July 25-27 in Lae.
Two proven samples be collected to produce cocoa liquor and chocolate products. The Cocoa Board of PNG (CBPNG) chief executive Boto Gaupu claimed Morobe as the new cocoa frontier compared to East New Britain that claim cocoa as sacred to their livelihoods.
Therefore Wafi Golpu Join Venture (WGJV) was awarded the naming rights as the gold sponsor investing K100,000 for PNG CoEX 2019 during the launching last Friday.
A total of K381,000 was raised to host the show. WGJV manager sustainability and external relations David Wissink announced the naming right ‘Kumul Bilong Morobe”.
The naming rights is based on WGJV’s tremendous contribution to Lower Watut inhabitants in Wampar, Huon Gulf ensuring their fine cocoa flavor being ranked fifth in the world in Paris.
Deputy Opposition Leader Timothy Masiu launched the CoEX 2019.
Masiu said the growth of rural economy depends on cocoa production and various agricultural commodities.
