WORK on Madang’s K96.6 million airport runway extension project will begin in October, National Airport Corporation branch manager Jack Pilai said.
Governor Peter Yama said Madang was developing fast with businesses booming and the need for a good air service was strong.
Pilai said the arrival of a new fire truck this week marked the roll-out of the airport runway extension programme.
He said separate meetings were held with the provincial government, stakeholders and landowners of areas surrounding the airport area.
Madang airport is expected to have a bigger flight control tower among other things.
“The airport runway extension will start on Oct 19 this year according to our work schedule,” Pilai said.
The contract signing with the successful contractor was earmarked for Sep 19 with the work to start on Oct 19.
