DATEC PNG snatched the Private Companies Netball premier division title, proving too strong for Australian High Commission, beating their arch rivals 26-18 yesterday at the Rita Flynn Netball courts.

Datec’s starting line-up saw Rachel Kapi and Leticia Gaia in the shooting arena, while classy mid-courter Kila Pokana played wing attack to create options for Kapi and Gaia, who were up against strong defence from AHC’s Elke Koulner and Winnie Oraka.

The teams were tied 6-6 in the first quarter.

AHC made changes to their team in the second quarter, moving goal attack Mary Age to wing attack, while bench reserve Sose Tava’e moved in, taking Age’s position.

But the Datec’s defenders did not allow their opponents to trespass. The women in blue over took at half time 13-9.

With the inclusion of youngster and player of the match Kimberly Alex in the second half, Datec maintained the lead right through to final quarter contributing well to Kapi and Gaia’s shots.

Things looked promising for the minor premiers from midway through the last quarter as they eventually won 26-18.
