The National, Tuesday 31st January 2012

This is in response to Asaro Watcher (The National, Jan 16) regarding commitments made by the National Planning secretary to the people of Daulo at Kiamunga village during the festive period.
The Yame sports tournament has been held for the past 17 years with local support.
The sports field is lopsided and requires levelling and the courts for volleyball and basketball upgraded. The field also hosts the Korepa Tournament and other sporting events. Approaches were made to relevant authorities to upgrade the field but the responses have being negative.
As for the rural electrification to a health centre at Yamiufa Primary School, the proposal proponent knocked on various government offices including the office of the local MP but to no avail for the past seven years. Kerosine lamps are used to deliver babies at this health facility as it has a labour ward.
The writer also alluded to the local MP to take care of development initiatives in the district. I believe our local MP is out of touch with his electorate.
During the same period, the local MP and his officers were delivering cheques to ghost projects and individuals at Asaro station. This is something Sam Koim’s team could be interested in.
Petty politics will not get us anywhere in helping us to deliver needed services to our people. We should leave aside our differences and get together to serve our constituents in our little ways.
