A DAWN raid by police at Lihir Island resulted in the recovery of about K60,000 believed to be part of the loot taken in a recent robbery.

A man is in custody and police are looking for another in relation to the armed robbery at the Eicon Trading Store on Lihir Island.

Lihir police station commander Michael Kaereu said the second man was the key suspect.

The thieves had taken K111,643 in cash and cheques from a female employee on her way to deposit the takings at the bank.

Kaereu said the dawn raid was conducted between 4am and 5am yesterday and thanked the public and security guards who supplied vital information to police in relation to the armed robbery.

He said they also recovered a shotgun.
