DDA Act needs review: Officer
THE Government should review of the District Development Authority Act to improve the delivery of services to the people, Department of Personnel Management executive manager for policy and research Aida Yuki says.
Yuki said corruption and non-compliance of public service policy has affected service delivery.
She said some of the issues affecting the public service were not to do with a lack of compliance.
She corruption in all its forms, from the mundane such as punctuality and absenteeism impacted productivity to the misuse and abuse of funds and resources.
“We don’t see the outcome and output of the day that we are planning so much that we put all our efforts in that planning in order to produce, but then the outcome is not there,” she said.
She said feedback and review was important as this would ensure adjustments and corrections to have successful system.
Yuki said workers needed to be held accountable for implementing policies and plans.
“We should provide resources for them so they can keep records and data to report at the national level so everyone is aware of what’s happening on the ground and provide the necessary resources.”
Yuki said another factor was that public servants tended to migrate to towns and cities because of a lack of basic infrastructure, including roads and appropriate accommodation, facilities like health, education, policing and other services like banking.
