Deal for first knee surgery in PNG inked

 AN agreement between a hospital in Poland and a hospital in Kundiawa, Chimbu, will pave the way for first knee surgery and hip replacement in Papua New Guinea.

The deal for the arrangement was signed between Sir Joseph Nombri Kundiawa General Hospital and Puszczzykowo Hospital in Poland, recently.

The arrangement will pave the way for the Kundiawa hospital to advance to another level of health care services, becoming the first in the country to do knee surgeries and hip replacements.

 It would also have an advanced knowledge in physiotherapy. 

Hospital chief executive officer Mathew Kaluvia and Polish priest Dr Jan Jowarski travelled to Poland and signed the deal for the arrangement with Puszczzykowo Hospital.

They signed another deal on behalf of DWU and the hospital with a School of Higher Education Physiotherapy University for advanced physio and clinical attachments and enhancements. 

Under the agreements, physiotherapy degree holders in PNG will do their masters in Poland with the Kundiawa General Hospital getting ready to send its candidate to improve its physio department.

Staff from the hospital in Poland will do clinical visits to Kundiawa at their own costs to assist in advance orthopaedic cases, do on job training to prepare staff for the hospital’s new pathology section, which will provide histopathology and microbiology services as well as the radiology section.
