Death penalty will control rape, murder

Letters

THE rate of people being murdered is very high in the country.
Most of the murders in the villages have not been reported to police.
Some have been reported but the police never make arrests.
Other reported murder cases are not being investigated.
In cities and towns, the police are on top of the murder cases.
Sadly, the same cannot be said for our remote villages.
I believe the death penalty is the only solution to controlling murders in our villages.
We can increase prison sentences but that won’t solve the issue.
To deter people from taking the law into their own hands, the Government should create a paramilitary squad consisting of Correctional Services, police and defence officers.
A 10-men squad would be appropriate.
This squad could go to provinces that have difficulty in making arrests of murderers and rapists and assist the local police to undertake investigations and arrests or attend to outstanding cases of murders and rape.
The operation could be funded by the district development authorities and the Government.
The picture is clearer now that it is an appropriate time to implement the death penalty as one bad apple will destroy the others.
One murderer in a village walking freely would make people normalise murder, which is wrong.
Implement the death penalty.
Let the people of Papua New Guinea decide if they want the death penalty, not the Government.
In that case, the people will be the ones implementing the death penalty and not the Government.
One province that has a long list of unsolved murder cases in rural areas is East Sepik.
