THE Institution of Business Studies debate competition for the National Capital Districts was launched by its patron and NCD Governor Powes Parkop yesterday.

Eight schools were in the competition aimed at developing PNG students as leaders. The theme for the competition this year is “Developing young leaders of our nation”.

Parkop thanked the sponsors and encouraged all governors to support the debate.

“This debate competition is very educational for students participating because it builds their confidence in public speech, research skills and the ability to talk about issues that are faced in society and in the county,” he said.

Parkop acknowledged the teachers’ efforts in preparing their students.

He encouraged the schools to lift their efforts because students from other provinces were doing well in the competition.

He said some MPs experienced stage fright and encouraged the students to appreciate the competition and take it as a way of learning to be confident leaders of tomorrow.

In today’s semifinals, Marianville will face Don Bosco and Port Moresby International will take on Kopkop College.

The NCD grand final is on Friday.
