Debts have us in bondage

Letters

THE 2022 Budget was well presented and delivered by the Treasurer.
It clearly indicates that funding impact projects and rolling out grants to LLGs, districts and provinces on time will be a big challenge next year.
As the Justice Minister said, the Government is in difficult times, so they can continue to borrow money to keep the economy going or directing the Central Bank to print more money or proposing super tax on commercial banks and companies etc.
We understand that the Government is looking beyond the horizon of our present boundaries to bring about changes.
Regardless of our situation – good times or difficult times – the Government should demonstrate fairly and simply and live within our means.
Let’s not be indebted to foreign aid forever.
Let’s avoid getting into a debt trap to fund and build our developmental goals.
The Government is truly in a debt trap and now they realise that interest has no mercy, they are coming up with super tax measures to make an unrealistic budget.
This hidden super tax and levy imposed on BSP and Digicel is a “harmful stone” getting ready to be thrown onto other commercial banks, companies and even the working employees to dig deeper through taxing and revenue collections.
It is now revealing to citizens that interests paid by our investors, and financial aid received from our financiers
and taxes collected from the employees had been put into a bag with many holes, so how can we repay our many debts and accumulate sufficient savings for financial storms that may bolster and keep our economy moving forward?
The Government owes so much to lenders which puts the nation in a form of bondage.
Therefore, let’s overhaul the managerial leadership and put in place a strict moral policy to drive our economy forward, and release ourselves from this debt bondage.
The leaders are the vanguard of this great nation, what you plan to do will set the future of our society and affect our livelihoods.
The simple voters sweat for you MPs, but until, now you have not changed their sweat-soaked shirts as yet.
