THE police officer who died after he was allegedly assaulted by at least two off-duty soldiers two weeks ago in Port Moresby will be buried next week at his village in Gulf.
National Capital District Police Superintendent Administration Chief Insp Christopher Tamari said the funeral service for the late Snr Insp Andrew Tovere would be held at the Sione Kami Memorial Church in Port Moresby on Monday.
His police colleagues will travel to his Morukapota village in Gulf to attend the burial.
He was allegedly assaulted at the ATS barracks on Friday, May 8 and died in hospital on May 9.
“The casket will be flown to his village on a chartered helicopter on Wednesday,” he said.
Tamari thanked all those who had contributed to the house-cry including the members of the Defence Force who set up tents and assisted with the gathering.
On May 13, three soldiers were taken in for questioning over his death.
Two were charged with wilful murder and remanded at the Bomana Prison. The third soldier is still under investigation.
