A SECTION of the road in Ambana, Bogia, Madang, was obstructed by relatives of a man who was killed by a drug addict last week.
Madang police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the illegal roadblock made it difficult for motorists using the road daily.
He said the main murder suspect was arrested by Bogia police.
“Police went to the illegal roadblock and ordered the Ambana villagers to remove all obstruction; they were also warned not to put up such road obstructions again,” Supt Rubiang said.
He said a PMV driver was also wounded at the roadblock and was hospitalised.
“Policemen at the scene had warned the villagers to refrain from such action because they had inconvenienced the public,” Supt Rubiang said.
“I also wish to remind them that the road is government property (and) we will not hesitate to arrest and charge anyone who put up any such obstructions on the road.”
He said villagers should always respect the law and behave as law- abiding citizens at all times.
Supt Rubiang said they should know how to resolve their problems amicably without resorting to damaging public properties.
