THE functions and powers of the Papua New Guinea Teachers’ Services Commission should be decentralised, independent of the Education Department and fully funded, a teacher says.
Papua New Guinea Teachers’ Association Morobe branch president and Omili Primary School deputy head teacher Mark Nanu said responsibility should be shifted to provinces and districts from headquarters.
His suggestion follows a consultative forum between teachers and a parliamentary committee last Friday.
The committee comprising Wabag MP Robert Ganim, Goilala MP Daniel Mona, Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso and Public and State Enterprise Minister Ben Micah met with representative teachers.
