THE main game of the Port Moresby men’s softball A grade between the young Brown Eagles outfit and Defence on Sunday afternoon promises to be mouth-watering affair.
Defence must lift their batting and fielding if they want to win this match.
In their 6-3 loss to Yokomo last weekend, the Douglas-Paak coached side failed to convert their opportunities into runs to grab the two competition points.
Sunday’s match will also be the competition’s final match of the year before it resumes on January 8 following the Christmas-New Year recess.
Defence representative players in pitcher Obed Mosley and backstop Kepas Mormor need to improve their call to ensure the opposing players do not steal bases.
The duo will be supported by Ainui Matlaun, Michael Avosa, Paon Dannie and Paon Jonos to keep the competition in check throughout the game. Brown Eagles, on the other hand, would rely on pitcher Kolish and catcher Graham Kinivai, with the assistance of the three ToAlbert brothers.
The Lumaris brothers, Consie and his sibling James, have settled well with the players from Matupit and should give Defence a good run for their money.
Port Moresby Softball Association president Tony Daple predicted that it would be a close game.
“The team that makes fewer errors will come away with the win, on form, both are not doing badly and it will be anybody’s game,” Daple said
“If I was to pick a winner, I would be picking Brown Eagles but like I said, the team that makes fewer errors will come away with the win.”
In the other A grade matches, United Brothers would have a hard game against the much-improved Gazelle, Yokomo should prove too strong for Manalos, while PNG Power are set to disconnect Saints.
