KAWASO Defence came from behind to gun down Islands Petroleum Mairi Eagles 18-14 in Port Moresby premier rugby league competition at the Lloyd Robson Oval last weekend.
Despite starting on the right footing early in the season, they failed to maintain their form and bounced back to their winning ways three weeks ago.
Eagles posted the first two points through a penalty kick to half back Kevau Igo to lead 2-0.
Defence retaliated with a converted try to Jay Makum to lead 6-2 but the Eagles managed to take over the lead when second rower Robin Mori barged his way over for an 8-6 lead.
Eagles added two more points to lead 10-6 going into the shed.
It was an even contest in the second half until current Port Moresby Stop N Shop Vipers back Lawrence Kuso Jr showed a brilliant effort to close the gap 12-10 before centre Junior Haro extended their lead to 18-10.
With time ticking down, Eagles scored a consolation try to Lohia Dairi to go down fighting 18-14.
