SEVENTEEN senior officers working within the Department of Defence signed their contracts last week.
However, only 14 were present to sign their contracts, with the other three unavailable.
Defence secretary John Porti who officiated the signing at the Defence Council Conference room at the PNGDF headquarters at Murray Barracks, said respect and humility were strong elements that lay a nourishing foundation for progress within each office and the department as a whole.Porti said these senior officers belonged to the state and the people of PNG and would be the platform towards the progress of the department and all officers contracted to them were expected to perform with high standards. He told the senior officers that “it is your duty to understand your responsibilities and to get your priorities in order for yourself, the department and the state and to use every opportunity to work together for the betterment of the organisation”.He said there was a  lot of work within the department that was yet to be accomplished and all section heads must find time to work together and support each other to bring forward the results expected for the benefit of the organisation.Acting deputy secretary Carmel Tamiloeni requested the officers for their personal commitment towards each other’s work and working in unity was also an important component towards successful progress within the organisation. The contracted officers are senior officers holding offices of first assistant secretaries and others.
