Delay mine till after elections

Letters

MOROBE is a sleeping giant that can be an economic hub.
The province can gain financial autonomy and become a model if our politicians and bureaucrats put away their political differences and unite in the best interest of promoting development and creating employment and other business opportunities for our people.
Morobe should not continue to be used under ‘divide and rule tactics’ by other leaders anymore.
That is what the people of Morobe have been witnessing so far.
At the moment, Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu and provincial administrator Bart Ipambonj are on one side and Deputy Prime Minister Sam Basil and few others are on the other regarding the Wafi-Golpu mining development project.
This is bad.
Politicians should listen to the wishes of the Morobe people instead of pushing for their own political agenda and debating issues in the media.
The issues of customary land rights and ownership of Wafi-Golpu mine and mining waste tailing disposals need to be addressed before anything else is discussed and finalised between the Goverment and the Morobe government.
These issues should be addressed first.
Otherwise, Wafi-Golpu mine should be further delayed until after 2022 national elections when a new government is formed.

  • That’s something seriously need to be taught and discussed about. Where do the responsible leaders leading Morobe to. They should have cooperate with the people of Morobe and come up with an agreeable solution for the betterment of the people of Morobe and the people of PNG.
