Deliverance from curses is possible

By Ps PETER AGLUM
DELIVERANCE means to rescue from captivity, hardship or domination by evil.
To be delivered from domination or captivity we need a deliverer to deliver us from these captivities.
In the Bible, God used many leaders to step in as deliverers to deliver His people from slavery, oppression and bondage. The common ones are Moses who delivered the Hebrews from slavery in Egypt, Gideon who delivered the Israelites from the oppression and suppression of the Midianites and Jesus Christ being the greatest deliverer of all time that delivers the people from the bondage of sin.
In this case I mean there are many people who are trapped by an attitude, a spell, a chronic illness or some kind of evil force that is suppressing them and they cannot prosper in life or cannot break free and come out. The Bible promises us a better life and a better future (3John 2, Jer 29:11) but in reality we are sort of trapped or caged in a situation where we cannot prosper in life. The signs and symptoms of a person under curse is already discussed in Part 1 of my article on curses that last week.
If the listed signs and symptoms of curses are evident in your life, then you are under a curse and you need to be delivered. There are some people whom God has called to deliver people and they operate under the deliverance ministry, however, Jesus Christ is and will always be the greatest deliverer of all time.
In actual fact, Jesus Christ is delivering the captives using the ministers. Therefore, it is very important to believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross and have faith in the work of God.
To be completely delivered from the bondage of curse requires genuine confession and repentance. The solution to the problems of curse doesn’t lie with anybody else. It lies within our own heart and must be uttered from our lips. Rom 10:10 – For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Confession and repentance is the most important part of the deliverance process. The Bible plainly tells us that any unconfessed sins will hinder our prayers to the throne of God.
Isa 59:1,2 – Truly, the Lord’s hand has not become short, so that he is unable to give salvation; and his ear is not shut from hearing. But your sins have come between you and your God, and by your evil doings his face has been veiled from you, so that he will give you no answer.
John 9:31 – Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.
Any known sins must be confessed to God and repented of accordingly. Some of the major blockages that will hinder our prayers are the sins of unforgiveness, idolatry, witchcraft and sexual sin.
When you have confessed and repented, you must stand ready to forsake or let them go to be totally cleansed and prosper in life.
Prov 28:13 – He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.
In order to drink clean water from a cup (vessel), the dirt in the vessel must be washed and emptied. When the vessel is clean and empty, clean water is poured into the vessel and can be drunk.
Likewise, our bodies are like a vessel filled with all kinds of dirt (sins). In order for God to fill up our vessel with is blessings and goodness and prosper us in our lives, we have to confess and repent of our sins and allow the blood of Jesus to cleanse our heart.
In Part 1 of this article I wrote that curses come from two sources – from God and one from Satan. The curses coming from God is as a direct result of our disobedience to God’s existing commandments and laws. Deut 11:26-27 – Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse: “the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you today.
If you believe and are convicted that your curse is a direct result of your own disobedience, you can humble yourself, confess and repent to God so that God will forgive you and the curse will be broken.
If you believe and are convicted that Satan and his agents have placed a curse over your life, you can seek a servant of God who is into the deliverance ministry. You can explain your problems to him/her and he can pray deliverance over you. You can also pray but make sure to confess and forgive anyone who has wronged you so that you can be delivered. Listed below is a sample of a simple step to be released or delivered from a curse.

Steps to be released from a curse

  • Personally affirm your faith with Christ.
“Lord Jesus Christ, I believe you are the Son of God and the only way to God the Father – that you died on the cross for my sins and rose again so that I might be forgiven and receive eternal life” I also believe that there is no other way to be delivered. I believe that you are the way and the deliverer. I placed my faith and trust in the finished work on the Cross of Calvary.
  • Confess any of the sins listed above
“I confess all my sins before you and hold nothing back, especially I confess the sins of (name specific sins).
  • Humble yourself and repent of all your rebellion and sins.
“I renounce any pride and religious self-righteousness and any dignity that does not come from you. I have no claim on your mercy except that you died in my place”
“I repent of all my sins; I turned away from them and turned to you, Lord, for your mercy and forgiveness”
  • Forgive all other people who have done you wrong.
By a decision of my will, I freely forgive all who have ever harmed or wrong me. I lay down all bitterness, all resentments and all hatred. Specifically, I forgive (Mr /Mrs so and so).
  • Break with the occcult and any false religion and renounce all contacts with occults and satanic things.
“I completely cut off from all contacts I have ever had with the occult or with all false religion or witchcraft – Particularly ….“I commit myself to get rid of all objects associated with the occult or false religion.”
  • Prepare to be released from every curse over your life.
“Lord Jesus on the cross you were made a curse, that I might be redeemed from every curse and inherit God’s blessings. On that basis I asked you to release me and set me free to receive the deliverance I need.”
  • Take your stand with God.
“I take my stand with you, Lord, and I resist the devil.
In Jesus’ most powerful name! Amen!”
  • Expel
“Now I speak to any demons that have control over me (speak directly to them – call their names if you know their names) I command you to go from me now. In the name of Jesus I expel you.
    Amen!

There are other steps which other deliverance ministers use. The one outlined above is the one I have used over the years which set many captives free.
