Demand encourages technical college to increase quota

Port Moresby Technical College’s new diploma programme for next year will have a quota of 20 students, deputy principal academic Mitiam Jake says.
Jake said registration for diplomas in electrical engineering and print and graphic arts closed last week with many applicants who were yet to be screened. He said they increased the quota to 20 because of the high demand.
He said eligible applicants included those with pre-employment technical training, technical training certificate 2, certificate 3, trade certificate and work experience.
Jake said registration had been open since August and closed last Friday.
He said there would be four blocks of apprentices either within the departments or doing industrial work.
“We are facilitating the diploma programme for electrical engineering and print and graphic arts,” he said.
“National apprenticeship and trade testing is done by the Department of Labour’s National Apprenticeship and Trade Testing Board.
“The demand for the courses are high.”
