Demand for fresh milk rising, says manager

Business

THE Innovative Agro Industry says its Ilimo Farm has been receiving calls from retailers, bakeries and caterers, about a shortage of imported fresh cream.
Business development manager Gallit Tamir said this was caused by the disruptions to overseas supply.
“Though fresh cream was on the drawing table as a future product, we did not plan to launch it just yet,” Tamir said.
“However, the call out from the market is that it is needed now.
“With our cows providing excellent quality milk, we are able to produce fresh cream.
“We immediately tasked ourselves to respond to the market demand.
“The challenge was to assemble a processing line, and by working around the clock this was accomplished.
“The product has received excellent reviews from chefs around town and it will be available at first in limited quantities to clients and major retailers.”

  • An excellent example of a company stepping up to meet local demand and in the process replacing imports with locally produced goods.

    Way to go IAI!

    Keep up up.

  • Thank you for bringing in down stream processing.
It used to be all talks back then but now its really being implemented.

    We are going places.

  • A classic example of an import replacement industry.
However, my concern is the retail price of its products which is not competitive enough relative to similar imported products.
For example its 1 litre milk is retailing at slightly above imported products.
As a consumer I am not better off by buying the locally produced milk.
It may well be that the industry does not enjoy economics of scale.

  • All is well and good and I commend the Company.

But the local milk product is a K2 more expensive then the popular Paul’s Milk which retailing at K4 per packet.

I gather the Government’s recent tariff protection is still not sufficient.

  • If you wear a PNG flag t-shirt every 16th Septembers, than show by your action to buy a local product and support the industry to become competitive in the future. Don’t complain about price at the infant stage yet…

  • Yes , I totally agree with you, the industry is still in infancy state yet and we need to support it
