Demonic culture rife
The National, Thursday 30th May 2013
A new trend of demonic culture is being practised by students, resulting in school fights around the country, Police Minister Nixon Duban said.
He said many students were resorting to violence because they were subjected to some form of demonic cult, which had been empowered and institutionalised.
He said students were practising a strange demonic culture “where they do not care or do not have respect for authority”, citing as an example this week’s clash between two high schools in Lae, which has resulted in the shooting death of a male student.
He said the shooting incident would be investigated thoroughly by police.
Duban was responding to concerns raised by Kabwum MP Bob Dadae on a police brutality case in which a group of officers assaulted men residing at the 6-Mile Saraga settlement last Sunday.
He said some rogue policemen displaying inhumane and barbaric acts still existed in the force because they did not receive disciplinary action from their superiors.
