A FORMER soccer international in Lae is calling on the Papua New Guinea Football Association to put aside soccer politics for the betterment of the game in the country.

Ogeng Dengkeo, from Finschhafen, who was known as “Ironman” in his playing days and represented the country as a defender, said soccer was not developing because the code was largely based around towns and cities.

He said associations in rural areas wanted to be part of the big picture but were in the dark because there was no awareness on how to affiliate.

He urged technical officials to go to the districts regardless of whether they were a member association to conduct awareness.
