THE drought situation has eased with rain falling in most parts of PNG, the Health Department said.

Health Department surveillance and emergency programme manager Berry Ropa said at the FM100 live talkback programme last Friday that PNG had not experienced any disease outbreak accept for dengue in Western.

“We confirmed that that’s the same type of dengue we used to have before, dengue type 2,” he said.

“Health Department has responded and confirmed the situation is stable, but it has moved out to some other outer islands as well as some inland villages.

“Otherwise, the province is on top of that and we will probably see the dengue situation will calm down.”

Ropa said they had some situations like mushroom poisoning in Southern Highlands and other poisoning in the Tapini area, but those were isolated cases.

“We did carry out investigations and there were no more cases in that particular incidence,” he said.

“There were no deaths associated with it.

“That’s important to know.”
