Denied the right to education

I AM the parent of a student who is supposed to be doing Grade 10.
I have tried to enrol my child into a couple of high schools where spaces were available in Port Moresby.
My child was rejected because he did not possess a PNG recognised Grade 8 certificate.
An academic report and a letter explaining the ACE (Accelerated Christian Education) curriculum were attached to support his application for a space to transfer.
However, that too, was not sufficient.
I was told that the school my child attended was not an accredited school like all the other ACE schools in the country.
There are a growing number of these ACE (Accelerated Christian Education) schools in PNG to meet the de-mand for education for the ever increasing population.
These schools teach a self study program and children learn how to read as early as five years of age.
What I fail to understand is that while it is a basic right for a child to be educated, why was my child rejected because of the absence of a PNG-recognised Grade 8 certificate?
Better options should be made available to assist children to have access to education.
I am still searching for a government-recognised high school that will give my child the opportunity to further his education.
School administrations and officials of the the Department of Education should urgently look into these issues.
