PORT Moresby General Hospital’s dental clinic will now use new equipment for filling and conducting oral surgery, courtesy of the Guangdong People’s Association from China.
A medical team of doctors and associate professors from San Yet-Sen University and Stomatology Hospital from China’s Guangdong province visited Papua New Guinea last Thursday.
As their third short-term medical visit, the team presented K20,000 worth of medical equipment and pharmaceutical supplies to the dental clinic last Friday.
Hospital chief executive Grant Muddle thanked the Chinese group for their support.
“It is important for the hospital to support this relationship.
“In the future, we hope to send our staff to your province to exchange ideas,” Muddle said.
Guangdong People’s Association vice president Zhang Weidong said this regular visit to the general hospital would continue to prosper.
“Guangdong is the third largest coastal province of China.
“We have short-term regular medical visits to every Pacific country every year,” Weidong said.
“Guangdong has a large economic advantage and many delegates have visited the province in the past.
“This is the third medical visit to PNG in the past five years that is arranged annually.
“Our visit is a compliment to long-term medical team of China in PNG.
“We hope to support much needed medical treatment to locals.
“We don’t come as 11 members only but we come as 106 million people from Guangdong province to PNG,” Weidong said.
