THE use of advanced technology to treat dental cases should be encouraged, Wewak dental officer Zipporah Sisiri says.

She was part of a PNG delegation to the Asia Pacific Dental Congress in Malaysia recently.

The congress is an annual event where dental professionals from all over the world discuss new approaches to treat dental cases.

The week long workshop focused on “Synergising practice excellence with modern technological advances”.

“The conference was helpful as we exposed ourselves to the outside world with the modern technological advances to enhance and broaden our knowledge in treating dental cases in Papua New Guinea.

“But we need financial support to purchase these new modern equipment and materials to provide the best, quality treatment to patients by employing the knowledge we gained from the workshop on the latest treatment approaches using modern technology.”

The speciality fields in dentistry include oral and maxillofacial surgery, radiology, orthodontics, paediatric, implantology, periodontology, conservative/restorative, prosthetics and endontology.

She was part of the Wewak team which attended  consisting of two doctors, two therapists and dental nurse.

The congress will be held in the United Arab Emirates next year and Singapore the following year.

More than 100 nations were represented by the 7,500 delegates who attended.
