Department aims to find Apec-used vehicles

THE Finance Department is hoping to recover the missing vehicles used during Apec in the next three months, says Minister Rainbo Paita.
Paita said a joint task force unit comprising Finance Department staff and police were currently investigating.
Secretary Dr Ken Ngangan had placed an advertisement in the dailies warning persons in possession of Apec vehicles to return them within 14 days.
“That 14-day period has lapsed and now we will work with the police in recovering the missing vehicles,” he said.
Paita thanked Police Commissioner David Manning for his support.
“What we are doing now is to recover all the vehicles and then we can proceed with the next step, like putting them on tender.”
Last year, the Finance Department embarked on a recovery exercise to retrieve the vehicles.
Paita told The National at that time that a 10-man team from police, Ministry of Finance and the Department of Finance was to recover the 148 “outstanding” vehicles.
“(Some of the) vehicles still outstanding are still with the organisations which used them during Apec but have not returned them.
“Some involved in accidents are damaged and still to be recovered and a few have gone missing,” he said.
Meanwhile, Finance Secretary Dr Ken Ngangan said the Apec Report should be ready by next week.
