THE Government has requested the National Department of Education to undertake public consultations and then draft a new national policy for the National Executive Council (NEC) to consider on compulsory education.

The aim of the Compulsory Education Policy is to support the provision of high-quality education to all students in PNG so that they can become productive citizens who can actively contribute to the economic and social development of our country.

The purpose of the policy is to ensure that all school-age children enrol and remain in school so that they can benefit from quality education and the government’s national Tuition Fee Free programme.

All children in PNG have a right to quality education.

The policy will ensure that their right to education is respected and fulfilled.

From June 24-26, department officials will hold consultative meetings with education stakeholders and citizens in 10 provinces.
