THE Department of Education and the Papua New Guinea Education Institute (PNGEI) will host the training of trainers workshops throughout the country.
The PNGEI would conduct workshops in six provinces to train teachers to implement the standard-based curriculum, according to its director for teacher professional development Israel Keai.
Keai said the provinces include NCD, Central, Gulf, Western, Manus and Hela. He said the core functions of PNGEI was conducting in-service programmes but PNGEI would do a good job training the trainers.
“I am sure they (PNGEI) will do a good job because they have experienced lecturers,” Keai said.
He urged PNGEI to work closely with the provinces for the workshops to be successful and asked all teachers to attend.
“Train all the teachers in the clusters. It is compulsory for all teachers to attend,” he said.
He advised that teachers who do not attend the workshops will have their salaries deducted.
Keai said the workshop was to build up the trainers’ capacity for the standard-based curriculum roll-out programme in the provinces.
He said the workshops would be conducted by the primary school inspectors, primary school teacher trainers and the PNGEI lecturers.
