Dept, institute sign deal to train public servants
By JEFFREY ELAPA
THE Department of Rural Development and Implement (DIRD) has entered into an agreement with the Pacific Institute of Leadership and Governance (PILAG) to provide training for public servants in the districts.
This allows for the two government agencies to implement district information management system training needs assessment reports, a survey on competency deficiencies conducted by DIRD throughout the country.
The report carried out found capacity problems at the sub-national levels, particular the competency deficiencies were identified in implementing the service improvement programmes (SIP) administrative guidelines.
DIRD secretary Aihi Vaki said the first training module that should be developed and delivered was ethics so the public servants were trained to think critically about what is right and wrong.
He said other training needed included project planning and management, contract management, project proposal preparation, oral communication, written communication, monitoring and evaluation, basic accounting, report writing, implementing (SIP), information technology, financial management, financial reporting, acquittals, five-year development planning, time management, basic planning and tenders and procumbent procedures.
