Dept sets dates for national exams

THE Education Department has confirmed and announced dates for the national examination for the grades 8, 10 and 12.
Acting Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra said all examinations are scheduled for October where each grade would take a week each to sit their exams except for Grade 12’s written expression would be done on Aug 8.
A department statement said Grade 10 will start on Oct 10 with – English, Mathematics Personal Development, Social Science, Arts, Science, Business Studies, agriculture and D&T subjects.
Starting Oct 17, Grade 12 will sit for Advance Mathematics and General mathematics paper 1 and 2, applied science, accounting, physics, history, biology, legal studies, chemistry, economics, business studies, geology, language and literature applied English and geography. Grade 8s will sit their examinations on Oct 24 and end on Oct 27 where students would do English Paper 1 and 2, Mathematics and combined subjects.
Kombra clarified that the outlined subjects must be done by the students in order for them to be certified.
“In lower secondary, the students will be required to sit seven subjects,” he said.
“Students in upper secondary will sit five subjects and the Grade 8 students will sit four subjects.”
He urged principals, head teachers, boards of management, parents, guardians and other relevant authorities in the provinces to observe the dates of the examinations so that they could prepare the students adequately and provide students with support they deserve before they sit the final examinations as per dates set by the department.
