MINING Minster Johnson Tuke wants staff of the Department of Mineral Policy and Geohazards Management and Mineral Resources Authority to practise accountability and avoid corrupt practices.
Tuke said this during the mining industry’s 2019 dedication service yesterday.
The service had the theme: Mining with Integrity and Accountability.
Both offices comes under the Mining Ministry.
“We are the custodians of all the mineral resources in this country,” Tuke said.
“This is why we must disseminate our functions and duties diligently.
“We have been blessed with abundant resources.
“The manner in which we have to look after all these resources is paramount.
“This should be part and parcel of our line of duty.
“When we are talking about integrity and accountability, it is to minimise the level of corruption.
“In June, we will be going into another big mine, which is Wafi-Golpu.
“We have learned enough.
“We should not let aliens intrude and exploit our resources.
“We should not give so much but should retain some for the future: that is very important.”
Pr Andrew Lukale of Korobosea Seventh-day Adventist Church, who led the service, said integrity and accountability were virtues rarely seen in people today.
