Dept will use plans to improve performance: Hualupmomi

Education

THE Department of Higher Education Research Science and Technology (DHERST) will use its development plans to improve its performance and deliver more effectively, acting secretary Dr Francis Hualupmomi says.
Hualupmomi said the national skills development plan 2021-25 and the national higher and technical education plan 2021-2030 (NHTEP) were intended to improve the sector by providing needed skills knowledge and quality information to students in the country.
He said DHERST aimed to grow quality and capacity of PNG’s skilled workforce and support industry’s ability to access the skills they
need to improve productivity, competitiveness, reduce PNG’s over-dependence of foreign labour
and deliver economic and social impact.
The five main goals were to improve the sector through regulation and management, teaching and learning, research and development resourcing and partnering.
Hualupmomi said the NHTEP would also provide clarity and direction in the implementation during the implementation.
Despite funding constrains, he said the plans would ensure efficient use of resources, effective allocation of responsibilities and provide framework for accessing progress to achieve the police goal areas.
He said the two plans were aligned to the country’s national development plans to guide the current and the next success government in their investment.
