WORKS and Implementation Secretary David Wereh says the construction of the K250 million four-lane road from Kagamuga Airport to Keltiga Junction in Mount Hagen, Western Highlands, has been delayed because of design issues.
Concerns have been raised that the project has not progressed since late last year.
“This is an important road project of the National Government to improve road accessibility in Mount Hagen, as well as the status of Mount Hagen as the third city in the country,” Wereh told The National.
“That road is scheduled for completion in 2019 and the contractors are working according to schedule.
“The problem of the delay was an administrative issue between the project management team and the contractor concerning design issues.
“The issue has been sorted out already and the contractor has already commenced work as I speak.
“We appeal to our good citizens in Mount Hagen and Western Highlands to support the contractors who are working on the ground to deliver this important road project.”
The Kagamuga-Keltiga road will be the first four-lane road in the Highlands region.
