Desperados at work in Chimbu

YOUR story “Treasurer suspended” (The National, Jan 18) is far from the truth. Your story attempts to character assassinate and defame Martha Anton, a career officer who had made her way up over time to be where she is today.
It is common knowledge that this is the work of a few disgruntled former public servants who were sidelined during the reign of former finance secretary Gabriel Yer because of reasons and causes they themselves know.
Now they are looking for somebody to blame for their demise and what better person to pick on than the only woman divisional head in Chimbu.
Ms Anton never declared at a public gathering that she would not work with O’Neill-led government. As a public servant she is duty-bound to serve under any government of the day.
As public servants they are not allowed to be involved in politics, this is the core ingredient of being a public servant.
Ms Anton’s detractors have been trying in vain to sideline her by coming up with all kinds of allegations which culminated in the forced entry of the Chimbu provincial treasury office in Kundiawa on Jan 15 to change locks to the doors in the presence of police and install Sandy Wamil as acting provincial treasurer.
It is shameful that an all-male team is trying in desperation to wrest the seat of provincial treasurer from a lone female officer.
