A MORE determined University beat PS Rutz with a late goal in the Port Moresby men’s Super League soccer challenge at the Bisini ground on Sunday.
The elimination final looked like ending in a stalemate until young University midfielder Arneil Passam scored in the dying minutes for a 1-0 win.
University will now advance to the second qualifying game and will play minor premiers VAT Yamaros next weekend while Mungkas, who shocked last year’s runners-up POMSOE  4-2, will take on PS Rutz.
The return of experience Mungkas’ Andrew Marampau and David Taro boosted the morale of young players such as fullback Shane Sindra.
Despite POMSOE taking the early lead, courtesy of Rodney Mobiha, Mungkas scored two quick goals for a 2-1 lead.
In the second half, the Lua Vagi coached side came back strongly to score twice through Andrew Marampau and POMSOE managed   one.
In the women’s Super League, University beat  Mungkas 2-1 and will now take on minor premiers Guria in the another qualifying match next weekend.
University scored through Esther and Pamela Norrie while Mungkas were lucky when University’s Miriam Louma headed an own-goal.
Guria have a good record over University.
Mungkas have been relegated to play Spartans. Spartans scored in extra time to eliminate Yamaros a 1-0.
