THE Pogera Joint Venture has donated school and medical supplies to communities along the Lagaip-Strickland river system.
The items were airlifted to the Paka, Aluni, Wanekipa and Yokona communities in Lake-Kopiago in Hela and Gaua in West Sepik.
“My hope now is to see the young generation get an education with PJV’s assistance,” Aluni community leader Arapa Goiya said.
The donations to schools include library books, chairs, uniforms, desks and wheelbarrows.
The two schools to benefit are Paka Secondary School and Aluni Primary School.
Medical supplies include hospital beds, mattresses, crutches and wheelchairs which were flown by helicopter to the Wanekipa Health centre in the Paiela-Hewa local level government.
PJV community relations manager Meck Minnala said such basic items were of great help to the people who had limited access to roads.
“These communities are some of the forgotten frontiers of rural Papua New Guinea with no roads and are accessible by choppers only.
“Little gifts such as these make a huge difference in the lives of these end-users,” Minnala said.
The donations were sourced through the Rotary Australia club.
