Development plan launched

WEWAK has launched its three-year integrated district development plan which will set out the development phase of the district to drive inclusive economic growth.
The plan prioritises different sectors including transport, fisheries, law and justice, education, health, and public utilities.
The plan also puts considerable emphasis on land administration, agriculture, forestry, environment and climate change.
Wewak MP Kevin Isifu said the district needed to work together to implement the plan.
“All the people of Wewak including public servants and stakeholders should work together and maximise the available resources in implementing the plan,” Isifu said.
“The Wewak three-year district integrated development plan (2020-2022) is a road map that sets out projects, strategies and programmes for Wewak for the next three years.
“The national government through district services improvement programme (DSIP), public investment programme (PIP), provincial government, development partners, private sector and other stakeholders, will fund the plan.
“The three-year development plan also sets out the basis for future development plans,” he said.
“The plan is more specific and radical with its alignment to MTDP III and the provincial development goals and priorities.
“It is anticipated to set a benchmark in the district’s development history.
“This is a drive heading in a new direction, which was never experienced in the past years, due to poor resource allocation, unsupervised and uncoordinated efforts.
“To effectively and successfully implement this district plan and policies, Wewak administration should strengthen its administration functions and sectorial coordination.
“The plan has for the first time, adopted monitoring and evaluation as a key component of the plan’s implementation framework.
“It is my utmost wish as the chairman of the Wewak development authority (DDA), to lead the development of the district,” Isifu said. “We should tap into existing opportunities and resources within the district that come our way in making Wewak a thriving economic hub.”
