A rural community in Morobe is beginning to see development carried out by the Morobe Mining Joint Venture.
The people of Babuaf, in the Wampar local level government, Huon Gulfare, are benefitting from a community participation agreement in the Wafi area since 2011.
The projects include the Demakwa and Waim bridges, Wafi access road, Babuaf Elementary School, an aid-post and community hall.
Wampar Ward 26 councillor Zoram Goff said people welcomed the development taking place.
But he said Kapongo, Wonkings, Wori and Mazim villagers in Babuaf, were yet to be connected by road to the Bulolo Highway and Lae. The road ends about four kilometres from the nearest Babuaf village.
Goff said people of Babulaf in the lower Watut area, used dinghies and canoes to travel to Markham, then catch the bus to Lae.
Goff said the Babuaf Development Ltd-owned trucks was used to transport people from the village to Lae and back.
