Diggers Hammer-ed in first round

 THE 50 over Hebou Shield tournament kicked off over the weekend with BSP, Air Niugini & Hebou all registering wins.

T20 champions, Hebou Hammers started their 50 over campaign with a thumping six-wicket win over Digara Diggers. Hammers elected to field first and the decision paid off as the star studded bowling line up ran through the Digara batsman to bundle them out for 104. 

Bobby Diho (30 no) & Tanti Heni (26) provided some resistance for the Diggers. Wickets were all shared amongst the Hammers bowlers with Mahuru Dai the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/19. In reply the Hammers batsman made light work of the total chasing it down inside 21 overs with the loss of four wickets. Vani Vagi Morea top scored with 37 not out with Kapena Arua (30).

In the other matches BSP Hearts brushed aside Pacific MMI Marlins by 6 wickets whilst Air Niugini Jets held on for a comfortable victory over Brian Bell Bulldogs by 32 runs.

Assad Vala scored a blistering 94 for the Pacific MMI Marlins but had no support from the rest of his team members as they were bundled out for a disappointing 126. Wickets were shared amongst the BSP Hearts bowlers with Jason Kila 3/23, Kila Pala 3/12, Tony Ura 2/18 and Paul Rawali 2/49 all claiming wickets. 

Tony Ura then made light work of the chase with a bludgeoning 67 not out to lead the men in green home by six wickets.

T20 finalists, Pure Water Diamonds & Dulux Magic kick started their 35 over campaign with impressive wins over Pacific MMI & Hebou respectively.

T20 champions Dulux Magic recorded a massive 66-run win over Hebou Harriet’s while Pure Water Diamond’s got home with 4 wickets to spare over Pacific MMI Mermaids.

Dulux continued their winning ways thanks to an imposing 8/233 off their allotted 35 overs which enabled them to dictate terms.
