DIGICEL staff have worn pink to show their support for breast cancer awareness this month and to demonstrate that corporate bodies should support this worldwide campaign.
This follows the company’s support for the Port Moresby Cancer Relief Society’s second Breast Cancer Awareness Walk across the gruelling Kokoda Track from the Oct 15-22.
The Breast Cancer Awareness team was supplied with Digicel Back-to-school backpacks, water bottles, Tee-shirts and caps to take along for the journey and awareness campaign along the Kokoda Track.
Genevieve Daniels, a participant from the team, said: “The items provided by Digicel have gone a long way.
“They were distributed to patients and communities living along the Kokoda track during our visit to deliver our awareness messages and the water bottles were handed to children to store boiled water and for them to drink from”.
The Port Moresby cancer relief trekking team educated women in many villages along the track by handing out purpose made breast self-examination cards which are easy to understand and provide a visual description to women of PNG.
The Port Moresby Cancer Relief Society is a non-profit organisation established to raise funds for cancer patients in Port Moresby.
The organisation is committed to complimenting the work of the medical professionals in the care of cancer patients at Ward 4C and Women’s Clinic at Port Moresby General Hospital.
