DIGICEL Cup organisers have brought the major and minor semifinals — featuring the Lae Tigers, Waghi Tumbe, Goroka Lahanis and Hela Wigmen — forward to Saturday, says the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League.
All matches this season have been played on Sundays but a tweak in the Digicel Cup programme will see minor premiers Tigers taking on Tumbe (1pm Kick-off) and the Lahanis facing the Wigmen (3.30pm) at the National Football Stadium.
The only game on Sunday will be between the SP Hunters and the visiting Redcliffe Dolphins, who will play for the Stan Joyce Cup.
The winner of the major semifinal (Tigers-Tumbe) advances to the grand final on Sept 8 while the losers meets the winners of Lahanis-Wigmen in the preliminary final on Sept 1. The loser of Lahanis-Wigmen match bow out of the title race.
The Lahanis and Wigmen are coming good wins against the Wamp Nga Hagen Eagles (22-4) and the Rabaul Gurias (13-4) respectively in the elimination finals.
Tigers fans are urged to be at the NFS early as the minor premiership trophy will be presented to the Lae side at 12.45pm before their match.
