Digicel Cup, PRL double-header on the cards for city residents
THE Papua New Guinea National Rugby League will stage the round six Digicel Cup double-header at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium on Sunday.
The PNG NRL board confirmed that the SHMS was the venue for the double-header between the Port Moresby Vipers and Simbu Lions (1pm), and the main game between the Gulf Isapea and Mt Hagen Eagles (3pm).
This would be the first time the Lions play in Port Moresby after relocating from Kundiawa in the offseason and then being required to play all home games at the away venue for the entire 2016 season as punishment for competition violations last year.
The round five matches between the Goroka Lahanis and the Isapea last Sunday attracted an estimated crowd of 3000 and with gate fees at an affordable K10 for adults and K5 for children, more people are expected to turn up for the two-game treat this weekend.
Organisers have paired off the day’s Digicel Cup fixtures with two Port Moresby Rugby League A grade matches with competition leaders Hawks playing Souths and West taking on Magani, as per a PNGNRL-PRL agreement.
