SIXTY-SEVEN pre-school children from Morata 4, 6-Mile, City Mission and Glynn Community Learning Centres were treated to a day of entertainment at the cinema on Wednesday.

Under Digicel’s graduate programme, 36 staff volunteers joined hands with nine graduate trainees and took time out to help inspire and entertain the pre-school children.

They watched the famous Lion King animated movie.

Cinema excursion coordinator Rhoda Moses, who is also Digicel Foundation’s programmes manager, said the theme of the first employee volunteer day of the year was “Dare to Dream”, offering children a bigger picture to aspire to through different experiences, education and dreaming big.

Every volunteer adopted a child for the day, engaged in conversation and mentoring to understand the cycle of life using the Lion King movie.

Among the children was six-year-old special needs boy Ernesto Billy, from Morata 4 settlement CLC.

He was all smiles when he was wheeled into the cinema accompanied by his mum and CLC teachers.

“This was one of the best community programmes I had participated in,” his mother said

“It was great to see the children’s faces light up as soon as they set foot into the cinema.

“It is important for children to be exposed to new technologies at a young age as it gives them a new perspective and to see life in a new dimension to stimulate and influence their minds to think differently and to continue dreaming big to achieve their dreams.  I am very impressed with the initiative.”
