DIGICEL PNG has switched on the first 10 long-term evolution (LTE) wireless broadband service sites for post paid customers in Port Moresby.
A reception was held at the Royal Papua Yacht Club on Wednesday where representatives from corporate houses convened to mark the launch of the service.
Digicel has taken on the challenge to be the first internet service provider to introduce 4G LTE in the country, the company said.
Chief executive John Mangos said there was a real demand for network speed in PNG and the telco was prepared to take the lead in meeting this demand through 4G LTE.
“We have started with the first 10 sites here in Port Moresby for Postpay customers. In time this service will be rolled out to the other provincial and district centres, and eventually made available to our Prepay customers as this move is intended to provide the best possible network experience to as many locations as possible.
“Of the 10 initial 4GLTE sites, eight lie within the central business district area while the other two cover Savannah Heights and Gordons,” Mangos said.
