THE Papua New Guinea National Rugby League season was officially launched yesterday with broadcaster Digicel unveiling a programme of activity which includes televising matches and hosting events.

Digicel PNG chief executive officer Maurice McCarthy said this year, Papua New Guineans would enjoy rugby league in more ways than simply watching the matches.

He said “NRL in the Park” would enable people to watch rugby league events held in Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Goroka, Madang, Buka and Kokopo.

“The 7 City Plan will include an outdoor cinematic event that is open to the public in each township and will involve the Governors of the designated provinces and feature local rugby league heroes, local entertainers and NRL highlights,” he said.

It announced last year that Digicel Play would this year broadcast State of Origin series matches, the All Star match, ANZAC test and the Under-20 games.

Digicel will continue to support and broadcast the Digicel Cup and the QRL Intrust Super Cup.

TVWAN also announced the return of the TV show FanZone and is also investing in a new programme called “Rugby Review”.

It will include views of rugby professionals in PNG and Australia.
