Newly-appointed Divine Word University president Professor Cecilia Nembou says sharing information and data through digital pathways is important for learning and networking.

Nembou was the keynote speaker at the first 2016 Networking event held by the Papua New Guinea Australian Alumni Association (PNGAAA) last week.

The theme of the event was “Networking through Technology”.

Nembou highlighted the importance of networking and sharing information in the digital era.

She said what Divine Word University in Madang was doing – the university is a leading learning institution in the country to be authentically sharing information and data through digital pathways.

The event also saw the launching of the Papua New Guinea Australian Alumni Association’s new website and Facebook page, the website and Facebook page would be used for PNGAAA members to access information and share ideas and news.

Australian High Commission’s acting counsellor education Kate Fuller said education was the way ahead for development and change.

“If you want to combat tuberculosis and other sicknesses, education is the way forward,” Fuller said.

“There are seven hundred public servants from PNG who are connected to the PNGAAA.”

PNGAAA president Professor Teatulohi Matainaho urged PNGAAA members to use what they had gained to develop the country and to work together through the networks they had established.  Last year saw 166 Australian Awards scholarships.
