DEPUTY Prime Minister Leo Dion says there must be an improvement in the coordination of activities in government departments and agencies to planning, budgeting, resource allocation and monitoring.

He told civil servants that this would improve public service delivery.

The public servants were attending the New Guinea Islands Consultative workshop on leadership, human resource management, financial management, procurement and project management in Kokopo.

Dion, the Minister for Inter-government Relations, said performance outcomes must be set across sectors especially at the provincial and local level government levels.

“The Department of Treasury on the other hand must allocate appropriate funding to those priority activities and ensure that these funds are released on a timely basis to support implementation,” Dion said.

“The government will continue to insist that strict fiscal discipline is exercised to ensure effective implementation of annual budgets and to avoid diversion of funds without going through the normal budget review processes.”
