Dion lauds churches for contribution
The National, Thursday January 9th, 2014
DEPUTY Prime Minister Leo Dion has praised churches for their contribution to national development.
While congratulating local priest Father Paul Tabalar from Tavuiliu ward in Gazelle on his silver jubilee recently, Dion said churches had not only promoted Christianity but also provided service in health and education.
He said Tabalar was a fine example of a public servant who had served without expecting returns.
Dion called on the people of East New Britain to ensure that their physical and spiritual development was enriched.
Dion said the Government wanted to continue working in partnership with churches in the country. This is reflected in the 2014 budget allocation to support churches and their work.
“There must be a clear understanding, there must be clear demarcation and respect for the partnership the government has with churches,” he said.
Dion also called on youths to respect their families and authorities in their communities.
“Family units are the foundation for development in wards, local level governments, districts and the country,” he said.
