Dion urges heads to visit rural areas
The National, Wednesday February 10th, 2016
DEPUTY Prime Minister Leo Dion has urged leaders and public servants in East New Britain to be serious about their responsibilities and functions.
Dion, who is also the ENB MP, said there was a need for leadership in the province especially in the education sector.
He told teachers during the opening of the 2016 academic year in Rabaul that there were more than 30,000 teachers in the province, mostly teaching in rural areas.
He said the teachers needed good and effective leadership.
“I challenge the provincial education adviser and the education chairman to ensure effective leadership is provided to teachers especially those teaching in rural areas,” Dion said.
“Inspectors must go out to those rural areas.
“Leave the towns where the luxury is and visit the teachers who are crying out for help.”
He said it was important for public servants in the education sector in the province to ensure that each child received assistance.
“We have to work as a team in reviewing and correcting our mistakes,” he said.
